Tags to suit..

Re-designed clothes must naturally have re-designed tags. I have been pondering for a while now how to make them nice and simple enough so it won’t take hours and hours to put them together. Then I found an old childrens card game in the flee market. It was missing a board and was therefore useless in its original purpose but the cards were wonderfully colourful and retro. So, I had an idea.

The tags are simply printed out and glued to the cards. I attach them to the clothes with various metal straps that I have gathered from used garments. Simple and still so cute! Now I just have to go hunting for some more cute retro card games…

Juggling with clowns

Last few days I have been juggling with bunch of clowns. I have been making a jacket for a little Circus loving man out of vintage clown fabric. I had just enough fabric to cut out the patterns and not an inch more. Had to make few tricks to make it work, but at the end I like what came out. I added few details to give nice unique touch to it. Hope the little fellow enjoys his clowns.

CLowNs RetroBug Jacket, size 74/80 cm.

Fabric is recycled cotton from children’s duvet cover and lining is a bambu knit. Buttons and zipper are all reused from old garments.

Although I love retro prints and colours, I find myself mostly wearing black and white. I have tried several times to add some colour to my wardrobe, but it always seems to go back to basic black and white. I feel like wearing lot of colours makes me look like a clown. I think it looks really nice when other people wear colours, but somehow it just never became me. Accessories are another thing though. They can and must be bright and colourful, something to brighten up the day. After all, one needs to have some colour in life.

Here are some colourful accessories for bigger and smaller retro fans. Huggable soft toys for little retro babies and bags and cup carriers for bit bigger retro lovers.

My all time favourite children’s fabric from the 70s is colourful bunny fabric that was used a lot for curtains and bedlinen. It was produced in several colours and me and my sister both had duvet covers from the red fabric. I remember looking at the bunnies before going to sleep. One of them was sleeping with a stripy pyjamas, one was peaking from the window of a small house. My favourite was a bunny couple that gazed at each others and had big heart on top of them. Nowadays, my son sleeps under the green bunny duvet. I wonder if he looks at them in the evenings, I wonder which one is his favourite.

The bunny fabric is also great to make some cute baby clothing. Here are some of the bunny outfits I’ve made with some other favourites of mine.

Recycling, re-design, retro, creativity, fun, details, colours, prints, surprises..
I love all of them.
So, when I make stuff, I recycle textiles, re-design them into something fun and cute, with surprising details, still keeping their original retro prints and colours, just adding bit of creativity.

What comes out, are mostly children’s clothing and accessories, sometimes also soft toy-huggables, cupcarriers, bags and all kinds of purses.

Here, I want to share the results to others equally retro enthusiastic people.
Hope you like what you see, and feel free to drop by again.
