I wanted to sew something simple but cute for the Christmas Market and I ended up making bunch of brooches out of small bits and pieces. They are amazingly easy to make once you figure it out. I used to fold napkins like this for fancy dinners when I was a kid. Just stitch it up, add a pin at the back and button in the front and it is ready. I have few of them myself to brighten up my dark winter clothes. They look really cool on a hat or jacket or even on a bag. I am definitely making more of these.

This past weekend I spent in a Christmas Market in the centre of Reykjavik. It was a beautiful with nicely decorated little shops and a big Christmas tree and wonderful Christmas music everywhere. You just could not avoid getting into Christmas mood. I met lots of new people and bunch of p.s.recycled cloths, pouches, brooches and Huggables found a new home. I shared a small shop with my friend Fanndís from Fanndís Design. She has amazing blown glass necklaces, rings, vases and decorations in her shop. I found some Christmas presents myself ;) I only wish I could spend more time in markets like this. Definitely a wonderful weekend.
p.s. The p.s.shop is now on Christmas Break until 6.1.2010. More retro stuff coming up next year.
I saw this cool idea in some website a while ago and I have wanted to give it a try ever since. There were these cute kids shirts with appliqued ties and I thought they were just adorable. Naturally I didn’t find the website anymore, when I went looking for it. So, I had to experiment. I took an old, dark brown t-shirt of mine and made a shirt for my son. For the tie I used cute little umbrella fabric, which I found in my leftover pile. It didn’t turn out quite as I expected but it is a cute idea. I also made one for the other man in the house. Now the boys can wear ties casually together ;)
I was asked to make a couple of retro pillow cases out of this amazing 70s curtain with green flowers. It was manufactured by E. Helenius and is called Tropiikki. It was a nice change to design and make something different for a change. I decided to add some black and white to calm down the print slightly and I think the green fabric comes out lovely like this. The black and white fabrics are old table cloths. I do hope they fit well to their new retro home.
It has been hazy last few days, since I have been ill in bed most of the time. So, the sewing has been on a break lately. Now I am feeling a bit better and hope to be able to start making some sewings again. Like I told you before, I am going to attend a Christmas Market this weekend. It is going to be in centre of Reykjavik, in the shopping street Laugavegur. I will be there on Saturday 12.12 and Sunday 13.12. I hope to have bunch of pouches and huggables with me there as well as some laptop sleeves and cup carriers. I have to see how much I manage to sew before that. But if you are in Reykjavik this weekend, do stop by to have a look and say hello!
There will also be a Christmas break in p.s.shop. You can place orders until end of this week, that is until Sunday 13.12. After that, the shop will be closed until 6.1.2010. So, go and check out the shop for some Christmas presents!
Yesterday I was organising my sewing area and decided to go through my leftover box. It is the place where I dump all the bits and pieces that are leftovers from my sewings. It was overflowing again, as I haven’t even peaked in there for ages. Somehow it was like going through a treasury box. Ohh, I still have some of this fabric. A bit of this one and that one too… How lovely!
Inspired from all my bits and pieces, I started a pouch factory. Snip snap, I was cutting away for hours. At the end, I had piles of colourful pouches with matching zippers, ready to be sewn. Here are some of the results. Few of them will go to p.s.shop but most of them I will take with me to a Christmas market next week. That is going to be so exciting! More of that later though. Gotta get sewing again. ;)
So, it is time to draw the winners of the hat giveaway! Thank you all for taking part and leaving a comment, I really like reading all of them. My son picked up the winners and here they are. (Though he wanted to pick more than two ;) )
