September 2010

I’ve gotten questions about the fabrics I have so I decided to show you few examples of them weekly. I have a big pile of fabrics that I don’t want to cut in pieces. They are either such a lovely curtains or fabrics on their own that I don’t want to ruin the pattern or they have some sentimental value to me. This first fabric pick of the week is one of those with sentimental value as I had similar duvet cover in yellow when I was small. This green fabric is one of those that I don’t know what to make with. I know it would make adorable jacket for Onni but I just can’t get myself to cut it down. Well, I will just admire it for few more years..

Just look at those animals and those cars. So cute! ;)

A pouch that purrs

Here are few of the pouches I have been making lately. I wanted to add some cute animals on the small coin pouches so I appliqued this funny cat and a giraffe on these stripy pouches. I lined them in simple cotton and added fitting zippers. Turned out quite cute, I think.

I have few more animals in mind for these pouches but more of them later.  These two will go to my cousin, whose birthday is in few weeks. Hope she likes a pouch that purrs.. ;)

Trousers trousers

I have been making bunch of trousers lately. Onni has grown so much last Summer that all his jeans are too short for him. He likes to wear loose jeans with ribbing on the waist and on ankles because they are so comfortable and he can take them off himself when he goes to the bathroom. His kindergarten teachers are also liking the jeans because they are so easy and comfortable but still cute and colourful.

I found a piece of recycled corduroy in the flee market and it was just enough to make small trousers. The colour is nice and deep blue and the fabric is like new. I love this kind of finds. I ended up making giraffe trousers with stylish back pockets and yellow ribbing on the waist and on ankles. Giraffe is made of retro pillow cover that I found in a flee market while ago. Nice and spotty for a giraffe ;)

The trousers are size 80cm and will be available in the Retrobug Shop. I am also adding bunch of pouches there soon, so go and have a peak!

Owls in a hoodie

These little owls found a home in front of a stripy hoodie for a little two year old boy. I seem to rediscover owls every Autumn. I was thinking of making a giraffe or lions here,  but I could not get the owls out of my head. So owls it was. Now I feel like making fitting orange and green Huggable Owls. Big and soft owls with hearts in their eyes. I am owl inspired ;)

The hoodie is made of green and white terry, leftovers of the lion shirt I made earlier for Onni. I added an orange lining in the hood out of cotton knit and white press buttons in the front. I think the combination of green and orange turned out quite nice.

Autumn jackets

Here are few jackets that are on their ways to new homes. Yellow jacket is made of retro curtain and has brown lining and zipper. The red jacket is made of  this favourite bunny fabric of mine and has a red lining and white zipper. Red hat with bunny applique finishes the look. :) Hope the little ones will like their new jackets.

This outfit is for my cousin’s new baby boy, who was just born few weeks ago. He has long dark hair and is the cutest little thing. Unfortunately I have to wait until January to see the little one myself so I wanted to send something cute and soft for him. The outfit is made of yellow velor and has brown ribbing. I added a stripy giraffe applique in front with button eyes. This funny giraffe wants to be a zebra, so he  has become all stripy. ;)

I also made a soft giraffe Huggable for the little man. The giraffe has swallowed a bell and his belly makes funny rattle noises. There are no buttons or loose parts in the huggable, so it is safe for a little baby to play with.

Welcome to the family, little one!

Autumn mushrooms

Autumn is my favourite time of the year. (Probably because my birthday is in Autumn) I have always liked the time of the year when nights get darker and you can see stars again. I love staring the night sky after so many bright Summer nights and count the constellations up in the sky.

Another sign of Autumn is mushrooms. I think it is wonderful to walk in the forest in Autumn and smell the rain and look for mushrooms. I don’t dare to pick up mushrooms however, because I am not sure which ones are eatable. And I tend to like the poisonous mushrooms, like toadstools the most. So, I just like looking at them and leave them to the forest ;)

So, you  can believe that I was happy to receive this in the post today. My dear friend from Norway sent me this fabric she found from her grandmas home. So lovely. So Autumny.

Bugs bugs

This Retrobug set is for a two year old little boy for his birthday. The trousers are made of orange velor and brown ribbing. This orange velor is a really nice colour. It is a bit toned down orange and fits really nice to the retrobug fabric. I made only one pocket out of retrobug jersey because two felt like a bit too much.

I also made a retrobug hat for him with white jersey lining to finish the look. Hope he likes his bugs! ;)

Oh baby!

This set is for a little baby boy who came to this world on Friday 13th. What a great day to be born and bring good luck to all his family. :) I wanted to make something soft and cuddly for him and ended up making a body out of Retrobug cotton knit with orange ribbing. I also made stripy terry trousers to match the body and appliqued a small elephant in front. The ear is made by cutting a hole to the applique so the fabric underneath shows through. Nice and simple! Since he is a tall handsome boy, I made the set in size 68/74cm so he can fit into it a bit later in the Winter. I think he will look adorable in Retrobugs and stripes ;)

Retrobug hat

I like this kind of simple jersey hats. It is really easy to make and it fits nicely to kids who don’t need tie-on straps anymore. This one is made of retrobug jersey and has brown jersey lining. It is good for chilly Autumn weather and is comfortable to wear. I wouldn’t mind having one like this myself. :)
