Happy mushroom

I’ve been organising my workspace and clearing out small bits and pieces of fabrics lately. I like the part when you have a pile of small fabrics and you are trying to figure out what to do with them. Since it is Autumn, I wanted to make something with a happy mushroom :D And this is how it turned out.

The shirt is made out of yellow stripy jersey, leftovers from this hoodie I made before and white single jersey. The mushroom is made of an old red curtain with white hearts as well as white velor and appliqued in front. I added red ribbing and used red thread to sew the hemline and sleeves for added colour. It sure is a happy shirt.

Retrobug tunic dress

One of my favourite outfits for kids are tunic dresses. Since I don’t have a daughter myself, I am happy when I get a request to make some. I mean, tunic dresses not just cute but also very practical. First they can be worn as dresses and later on as tunics with trousers. And since kids grow so fast, it is nice to have clothes that last a bit longer.

This Retrobug tunic dress is for a little four year old girl. It is made of retrobug cotton and has a zipper behind. I added a string to the hemline, so the hem can be tightened or kept loose. The pocket and the yellow neckline add a bit of colour to the whole. I was thinking of adding some big yellow or orange buttons in front but I think less is more with a fabric like this. What do you think?

Have a nice weekend everyone,

Remember these?

I was looking through some baskets of fabrics in a flee market when I came across this fellow. I remember having one very similar when I was a baby and finding one now was truly a happy occasion. My mom sewed few dolls like this for me and my sister, but I have not seen this kind of printed dolls for a long time.  I wonder if they still exist? The doll’s back and front are printed on fabric. You just sew them together and stuff the doll and he or she is ready. Lovely and oh so retro! Did you have a friend like this when you were a kid?
