Hats

You are currently browsing the archive for the Hats category.

I found myself being a hat factory and making a pile of Summer hats with Hedgehogs and Bunnies. The hats are made of jersey and terry and are nice and thin for the cool Summer evenings. They are all lined with colourful jerseys and can be used as reversible hats. Cute cute.

What a busy last week it has been! We have been fixing our living room by painting one of the walls, hanging pictures and refurbishing the sofa. It is slowly coming together, so I have managed to finish some unfinished sewings. I have a pile of reversible hats in making right now. They are all made of jersey or cotton knit, so they are perfect for the Spring and Summer. This one has a car jersey on one side and orange knit on the other side with a Hedgehog applique.

p.s. I have also another kind of hats and beanies in making for a bit older kids and for adults. But more of that in the next few days.

So, stay tuned,

It’s always great to hear that people like the stuff I have made for them. I am also grateful of all feedback, so please feel free to leave a comment or send me email if you have any suggestions or feedback.

It always makes me smile to see pictures of little Retrobugs in action. I got this picture of a cute, little boy, whose mom was one of the lucky ones to win a Retrobug Hat in my giveaway last year. They have hedgehogs amongst others as pets, imagine that, so it was very fitting that she won the hedgehog hat for her son. What a cutie he is! And look at that furry bunny. Wow!

p.s. I would love to see more pictures of Retrobugs in action. If you have any pictures of the stuff I’ve made and you don’t mind sharing them here in the blog, please send me a copy in ps@psrecycled.com. :)

p.p.s. The Spring Flower Tutorial is on its way, coming up soon!

Have a great week everyone,

Since I started crocheting a while ago, I have been hooked. It’s so nice and relaxing and you can crochet the night away without waking up the whole house. So, after two hoodies for my son, I was wondering what to make. I mean the hoodies are cute, but how many crocheted hoodies does a little boy need? Not more than two, I say.

It is a bit difficult to come up with cool ideas to crochet for a little boy, especially for a beginner like myself. So, I decided to experiment with the yarn and try to make a pointy hat for him. Something handy for the spring, which is not too hot yet still covers the ears. So, this is what I came up with. Brown and white stripes and straps to tie it up. Pretty ok for a test run. I know now what to do differently next time. But that’s the fun of making stuff without instructions. You try it out and see what happens. And unravel it a lot. :D

Have a creative and experimental week everyone!

Hedgehog are so cute, I think. It seems like I’m sewing hedgehogs in everything possible. Here again blue trousers and a hat got some colour with a stripy hedgehog appliqued in front. Onni’s cousin got this set for Christmas. It matches nicely to the shirt that I made for him on his birthday. Hope he likes hedgehogs as much as I do. :)

This tasty tunic dress full of strawberries was a Christmas present for a cute little two year old girl. The strawberry fabric used to be a small curtain and was just enough to make this outfit. In the winter the tunic dress fits nicely with long sleeve shirt and tight trousers and in summertime it’s perfect on its own. From the leftovers I cut a small flower, which I appliqued to a velor hat. Nice detail to brighten up the dark winter.

Moomins are the best. At least if you ask my son. He loves the Moomins and wants to play with his Moomin cards and toys all day long. His little cousin is also a huge Moomin fan, so she got this cute Snork Maiden velor dress for Christmas. Naturally I had to make a matching hat with little My hiding up there. Snork Maiden and Little My are cut from an old Moomin duvet cover and appliqued to the velor. Lining is yellow orange soft cotton from a vintage sheet. Hope she was pleased with the Santa this year ;)

Giveaway!

Look who is hiding in the hat…well isn’t it a cute little bunny lady and a small hedgehog? These two friends decided to make home to two hats that I made today. They are both made of orange velor and the lining in the bunny hat is orange knit and brown jersey in the hedgehog hat.

I was originally making them for my son, but he has grown so much since last winter, that they became a bit tight. I think they are perfect size for a one year old. Oops! I can’t seem to remember that my little baby boy is almost two years old already ;)

Well, that just gives me the opportunity to give these cute hats to someone else. And since I am also very curious to find out who are the people visiting my blog, I decided to do a small GIVEAWAY! So, just leave a comment to this post and tell which one of the hats you like the best. I will give both of the hats away, so two of you will win!  The winner will be announced 1.12.2009 – Good luck!

Hats for the little man

Last weekend I was trying to find fitting hat for my son and realised that he has grown out of most of them. Wow, I thought. Children sure grow fast. But then again, it has been a while since I have made any hats. So, without any further plan, I decided to sew few quick and easy hats to keep the little man warm.

I have kept all his old shirts and onesies that are too small for him and have not been given away to friends. From that pile, a cute hedgehog shirt transformed into practical jersey hat with dark brown lining. It became very cute and most of all, it is all recycled. I like!

I also printed retrobugs into white bambu knit, which became another similar hat. I added orange lining and straps to give the hat some colour. I love the colour combination in this hat. Just adorable! What do you think?

My all time favourite children’s fabric from the 70s is colourful bunny fabric that was used a lot for curtains and bedlinen. It was produced in several colours and me and my sister both had duvet covers from the red fabric. I remember looking at the bunnies before going to sleep. One of them was sleeping with a stripy pyjamas, one was peaking from the window of a small house. My favourite was a bunny couple that gazed at each others and had big heart on top of them. Nowadays, my son sleeps under the green bunny duvet. I wonder if he looks at them in the evenings, I wonder which one is his favourite.

The bunny fabric is also great to make some cute baby clothing. Here are some of the bunny outfits I’ve made with some other favourites of mine.
